IRS Identity Protection PIN Tool Available
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced they will start accepting electronically filed tax returns on January 24, 2022. If you have not already obtained an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN), we strongly encourage you to do so prior to that date. As we mentioned in our most recent client letter, we are offering a 10% discount up to $50 if you obtain an IP PIN prior to February 1, 2022. Tax fraud has reached unprecedented levels. Because of the overwhelming amount of fraudulently filed tax returns in 2021 the IRS has increased their published expected resolution time for a fraudulent return from 120 days to 260 days.
The IP PIN tool on the IRS website was down for maintenance between November 2021-mid January 2022. The IP PIN tool is now available on the IRS website.
